As the District Attorney of Boulder County, I am committed to providing community leadership and criminal justice resources in the following critical areas:
Environmental Crimes. Protecting our beautiful land, water and air – the heart and soul of Boulder County – will be an absolute priority. I will assign an attorney in my office to serve as a dedicated environmental crimes prosecutor. My office also will work collaboratively with environmental and law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute crimes that damage the environment and health of our community.
Sex Crimes and Human Trafficking. Expanding on the dedicated work of the Office’s Sex Assault Division, I will create a Workplace Sexual Violence Task Force for Boulder County agencies, businesses and educational institutions. My office also will develop specialized curricula for young people on sexting and cyberbullying, and work with area colleges and high schools to ensure Title IX protections are being enforced. I also will engage with District Attorneys and law enforcement agencies to create a Statewide Human Trafficking Team.
The Opioid Crisis. As District Attorney, I will continue the office’s participation in the Boulder County Opioid Advisory Group, looking for coordinated solutions to the ongoing opioid crisis. One of the clear priorities in addressing opioid addiction is improving and expanding treatment options for opioid addiction. I will actively assist in these efforts and work to integrate treatment programs into problem-solving courts and diversion programs.
Public Corruption. No one who commits a crime is above the law – especially those that exploit their positions of public trust to engage in criminal wrongdoing. I have prosecuted cases against public officials, and so I know the damage public corruption causes to the community’s trust in government. My office will actively investigate and prosecute any cases involving corrupt public officials – including members of law enforcement and the judicial branch, election officials and members of city and county agencies. I also will establish a system to allow confidential reporting of these crimes.
